Gotu Kola is one of those little known ingredients that packs a powerful punch of benefits. It’s a small, perennial herbaceous plant from the wetlands of Asia. It’s been used for centuries in India, Africa and China because of it’s potent medicinal properties. It’s a member of the parsley family and is flavorless and odorless. It can be taken as a tea, tincture, powder or added into various products.

Gotu Kola, also known by it’s scientific name, Centella Asiatica, is used as a remedy for a variety of ailments, including blood pressure, anxiety, and memory. Here’s are a few of our favorite benefits.

Gotu Kola reduces wrinkles and improves wound healing.

Of course we love this one and is why we’ve included this incredible herb in our ingredients. This medicinal herb is well known for it’s potent skin healing and nourishing abilities. Recent research has proven the anti-aging effects of this “miracle herb.” Molecules in the herb, known as Saponins, have dynamic healing effects. They have a powerful anti-oxidant effect that can improve scar tissue, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and leave the skin with a healthy texture. These little leaves are chock-full of awesome nutrients for the skin.

Gotu Kola has also become well known in reducing the time for a wound to heal. In addition, it reduces the appearance of scar tissue, making the wound less visible. Pretty amazing, right?

It also improves circulation.

Who would have thought this little parsley-looking herb could have such a powerful effect! The University of Maryland Medical School recommends Gotu Kola for people with veinous insufficiency – basically Goto Kolapeople who’s veins aren’t strong enough to pump blood back up their legs, so fluids pool in their feet and ankles. On their website, they said:

Several small studies suggest gotu kola may help reduce swelling and improve blood flow. In a study of 94 people with venous insufficiency, those who took gotu kola saw their symptoms improve compared to those who took placebo. In another study of people with varicose veins, ultrasound tests showed that people who took gotu kola had less leakage of fluid.

It’s also recommended to take Gotu Kola before a flight to prevent swelling in the legs and ankles.

Used to help with blood pressure.

Because of it’s ability to help with circulation, Gotu Kola has been known to assist in reducing high blood pressure. A recent study showed promising results when it comes to using this herb to help with blood pressure because it can relieve the tension in the arterial system, increasing circulation and improving blood flow.

It even improves memory!

I’ve already found myself recommending this to a ton of people, not just for the incredible skin healing properties but also for it’s memory-improving abilities. A study in the Journal of Alzheimers showed amazing results when patients with Alzheimer’s were given Gotu Kola. It seems to improve the cognitive pathways, leading to improved memory. Another study done with a group of Alzheimer’s patients showed a verifiable improvement in memory for those taking Gotu Kola. How’s that for some wonderful results?
