As most people are aware from school, the atom is, simply stated, the smallest unit of matter. The existence of the atom was first reasoned or theorized in the 5th century BC by Greek philosophers who coined the word atomos (atomus), meaning uncuttable. However, it was not until the early 1800’s that evidence was actually gathered to prove that particular hypothesis.
Nanotechnology, or Nanotech, is the manipulation of matter at an atomic or molecular level.
What nanotech means for skincare is a phenomenal breakthrough that can and does produce positive results beyond traditional skincare products.
Our skin is miraculous. It is the largest organ of our body with a total area of approximately twenty square feet and has primary purposes to protect us from the elements, assisting to regulate our body temperature, while also permitting the sensations of touch, heat and cold.
Skin is also quite durable. The outer layer, the epidermis, is waterproof and is the protective wrap, serving as a barrier to infection, etc. Then, there are five sublayers. Below the epidermis is the dermis, consisting of connective tissue to cushion our body from stress and strain.
As people age their skin may show the passage of time in at least one, if not more, of several ways, including liver or sun spots, wrinkles, fine lines, crows feet, loss of elasticity and firmness, dry/dehyrated or itchy skin. And there are both internal and external factors affecting our skin that may contribute to the aging process.
Here we focus on one specific method to help address the issue of aging skin; proper and effective skincare through Nanotech, and what it can mean for you.
As stated, Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter, especially making something smaller. This is extremely important in skincare as our skin is designed to keep us safe, acting as a defensive barrier, especially to infection.
Typical skincare products are applied to and basically sit on our skin.
They are, in actual fact, unable to adequately penetrate our skin’s protective layer to be as effective as possible. Their ingredients are like frosting sitting on top of a cake.
Nanotechnology enhances the delivery and efficacy of our natural and organic ingredients providing deep skin penetration and immediate delivery into the cells, supplying the maximum achievable benefit to battle the signs of aging, to recapture our skin’s youthful and radiant glow.
To be a truly effective cosmetic, products must be designed to ensure the beneficial substances are able to penetrate inside our skin cells, affecting their metabolism in a way that improves their health, yet not damage the overall skin integrity. Ali & Shay has successfully accomplished that through the utilization of Nanotechnology.
We have combined ultra-pure water with the latest advances in skincare technology, creating natural and organic performance-based formulas made without artificial fragrances, parabens, mineral oils or other chemicals, to nourish and replenish cells from the inside out. The complete list may be viewed at Our Ingredients.
At Ali & Shay we are extremely proud of each and every product we produce through our Nano-Nutrient Delivery System™ to assist one and all in taking care of their skin. Results that are crafted with the magic of nature.™
Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice, or simply Aloe Vera, has been used and LOVED for thousands of years! The benefits of aloe vera for skin care are pretty astounding. Just think about it…any plant that can stay super hydrated in the desert has to be amazing for the skin.
What I find so super amazing about this one powerful ingredient we’ve included in our Ultra Nourishing Day & Night Cream is the 200 nutritional substances packed within its leaves! That’s all packed into one ingredient. The benefits of aloe vera for skin that’s healthy and hydrated are abundant.
“Aloe is loaded with 20 known minerals, 20 amino acids, 12 vitamins including vitamin B complex, folic acid, vitamin C and carotene and active enzymes!!” Ali & Shay
The Benefits of Aloe Vera for Skin Don’t Stop There…
Aloe is a super succulent and best friend to dry, damaged, irritable or even sensitive skin types. It’s a “must-have” ingredient to soothe skin after sun exposure or other damaging activities like wind exposure. Another thing I really love about Aloe is it’s healing anti-inflammatory ability to soothe the skin. It reduces scars and helps wounds.
You know when it’s just too much to leave that little black head alone and you do a little more damage than you wanted to. Not only does it help the damage we may do, but also helps with acne, pimples and even rosacea.
But wait, there are more benefits of aloe vera for skin care!!!
Because of the salicylic acid and high antioxidant amounts, aloe again proves itself a must in a skin-care routine. That’s why it’s we chose to include this wildly potent ingredient in our Ali & Shay Ultra Nourishing Skin Cream.
Oh, guess what else? It protects from UV damage and can block up to 30% of those undesirable ultraviolet rays when applied generously. Yes please!
Thank you Aloe for giving us these amazing anti-aging and super healing benefits for hydrated, healthy, and nourished skin.
So many skin products boast of firmer, tighter, moisturized skin. But let’s talk specifics; Botanical Hyaluronic Acid (psst, meaning from a plant) is holding up it’s reputation of increasing moisture but also encouraging collagen production which results in plumper and juicer skin. We’re getting multiple benefits from one simple ingredient. What more can you ask for?
Not all Hyaluronic Acid is “created” the same…
There is one caution when shopping for a skin care line with Hyaluronic Acid and it lies in it’s name “botanical.” There are two types of Hyaluronic Acid. We are looking only for the type that comes from a plant called cassia angustifolia. With this botanical version we know a couple of valuable things; it’s a far more ethical practice to procure this coveted ingredient and the it’s purity is indisputable. It’s made my mother-nature which, in our book, is the best possible source!
Back in the day, Hyaluronic Acid was obtained from horses or rooster combs (fleshy part at the top of the head). Yuck! Luckily for us, they found a fantastic replacement that is solely botanical and still boasts of all the desirable benefits!
So what is Hyaluronic Acid, anyway?
Hyaluronic Acid is something that is naturally occurring in joints, connective tissues and the SKIN. As we age, our levels decline. In fact it drops from 20% to 10%. That’s a big decline of something so mandatory to our youthful, glowing appearance. That’s why it’s such a vital ingredient in anti-aging products.
Let’s talk about some quality benefits. Hyaluronic Acid has an incredible ability to hold AND attract more than 1000X its weight in moisture. Seriously! That’s incredible. It has a very unique ability to attract a changing amount of moisture based on the amount of environmental moisture in the air. Given that I live in one of the one of the driest states in the United States – Utah – Hyaluronic Acid was a must in our skin-care line.
Shannon lives in Phoenix, Arizona – just as dry – so we both wanted to ensure our products focused on moisture retention as well. Plus, when your skin is dry it shows more wrinkles and creases. Having Hyaluronic Acid in our beauty line keeps your skin looking fresh, moisturized and nourished. Now that’s convenient!
So, when you are looking for a skin care regimen to assist your skin each and every day to fight the signs of time, Hyaluronic Acid is vital. It is going to protect the skin, keep it plump and juicy by strongly binding and attracting moisture all while filling in wrinkles and fine lines. We certainly like the sound of all that and we are loving the results.
Gotu Kola is one of those little known ingredients that packs a powerful punch of benefits. It’s a small, perennial herbaceous plant from the wetlands of Asia. It’s been used for centuries in India, Africa and China because of it’s potent medicinal properties. It’s a member of the parsley family and is flavorless and odorless. It can be taken as a tea, tincture, powder or added into various products.
Gotu Kola, also known by it’s scientific name, Centella Asiatica, is used as a remedy for a variety of ailments, including blood pressure, anxiety, and memory. Here’s are a few of our favorite benefits.
Gotu Kola reduces wrinkles and improves wound healing.
Of course we love this one and is why we’ve included this incredible herb in our ingredients. This medicinal herb is well known for it’s potent skin healing and nourishing abilities. Recent research has proven the anti-aging effects of this “miracle herb.” Molecules in the herb, known as Saponins, have dynamic healing effects. They have a powerful anti-oxidant effect that can improve scar tissue, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and leave the skin with a healthy texture. These little leaves are chock-full of awesome nutrients for the skin.
Gotu Kola has also become well known in reducing the time for a wound to heal. In addition, it reduces the appearance of scar tissue, making the wound less visible. Pretty amazing, right?
It also improves circulation.
Who would have thought this little parsley-looking herb could have such a powerful effect! The University of Maryland Medical School recommends Gotu Kola for people with veinous insufficiency – basically people who’s veins aren’t strong enough to pump blood back up their legs, so fluids pool in their feet and ankles. On their website, they said:
Several small studies suggest gotu kola may help reduce swelling and improve blood flow. In a study of 94 people with venous insufficiency, those who took gotu kola saw their symptoms improve compared to those who took placebo. In another study of people with varicose veins, ultrasound tests showed that people who took gotu kola had less leakage of fluid.
It’s also recommended to take Gotu Kola before a flight to prevent swelling in the legs and ankles.
Used to help with blood pressure.
Because of it’s ability to help with circulation, Gotu Kola has been known to assist in reducing high blood pressure. A recent study showed promising results when it comes to using this herb to help with blood pressure because it can relieve the tension in the arterial system, increasing circulation and improving blood flow.
It even improves memory!
I’ve already found myself recommending this to a ton of people, not just for the incredible skin healing properties but also for it’s memory-improving abilities. A study in the Journal of Alzheimers showed amazing results when patients with Alzheimer’s were given Gotu Kola. It seems to improve the cognitive pathways, leading to improved memory. Another study done with a group of Alzheimer’s patients showed a verifiable improvement in memory for those taking Gotu Kola. How’s that for some wonderful results?
A “Miracle Herb”?
While the benefits of this incredible herb have been known for centuries in Asian countries, it’s relatively new to the Americas. In our research on the best ingredients for anti-aging and skin health, we discovered Gotu Kola and we’re bringing it to you!
Peptides, oh peptides, what wondrous gifts you bare. My skin now glows from head to toe… And you’ve done wonders for my hair.
Okay, okay, so I’m not a poet! But I am a scientist. There’s an interesting little tid-bit. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom-preneur, I was a Biology teacher and some-times lab rat at a pharmaceutical company.
You see, peptides are little pieces of proteins. Why are they important? Well, proteins are the building blocks of skin. Think of proteins as the framework on which everything relies for structure, firmness, and shape. Without proteins…or without enough proteins, your skin gets saggy, droopy, dull and wrinkly.
“Want firmer skin with a healthy glow? Peptides are the ingredient you’re after.” Ali & Shay
When Alisha and I set out to create our first product, we wanted all the ingredients from nature that had the most amazing benefits and results. Peptides definitely topped our list. They are simply essential for anti-aging, a healthy glow, great texture and smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles.
So why add peptides to skin cream?
When peptides are applied to the skin they signal the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. Both of these are responsible for giving our skin elasticity and strength, so obviously great anti-aging components. When applied to the skin, skin cells can utilize these building blocks to create more of the proteins, improving the look, texture and composure of the skin. Pretty cool, right? It’s a little known beauty secret that produces a big effect.
In fact, a recent study conducted in Germany found:
As a consequence (of peptides), pigmentation of photo-damaged skin and fine lines and wrinkles are reduced with the regeneration of the skin matrix cells. Skin elasticity increases, and skin appears smoother and firmer…
There’s a lot of research being done on their value, not just for anti-aging (which we love) but also for medical applications such as help for burn victims. All in all, we love its incredible benefits which is why we’ve included them in our beauty products.
